Police in Blantyre have arrested Kamlepo Kalua, a Member of Parliament for Rumphi East, on charges related to cybercrime.

According to Police spokesperson Peter Kalaya, Kalua is currently being taken to Area 30 police in Lilongwe to provide a statement.

The arrest of Kalua was confirmed by his son, Penjani Kalua, also known as Fredokiss, via Facebook. Kalaya also indicated that law enforcers arrested activist Bon Kalindo in Salima on similar charges yesterday, and he spent the night in custody in Lilongwe.

“The allegations stem from voice notes that the suspects allegedly released, which are believed to be criminal in nature according to certain sections of the law,” Kalaya said.

Kalua and Kalindo are both facing serious legal scrutiny over their alleged cyber activities.
