Leader of opposition in Parliament Dr. George Chapinda on Monday visited Member of Parliament for Rumphi East Kamlepo Kalua at Lingazi Police cell in the capital Lilongwe.

Kalua was arrested on Friday last week together with right activist Bon Kalindo on grounds of cyber crime, according to information sourced by this publication.

writing on his official facebook page, Chaponda said:“As I sat in the Lumbadzi police cell, I was met with a mix of shock and resilience. Hon. Kamlepo Kalua, a dedicated public servant, sat before me with a faint smile, despite the injustice he had faced. His eyes, however, told a different story – one of pain, humiliation, and determination.

“He recounted the events leading to his arrest, his voice steady but laced with emotion. “They came for me in the dead of night, like thieves in the darkness. No time to ask questions, just brute force and intimidation.” He spoke of being driven from Blantyre to Lilongwe in handcuffs, denied basic rights, and treated like a common criminal.”

He added: “Despite this cruelty, Kamlepo’s spirit remains unbroken. He reaffirmed his commitment to Malawi, democracy, and the people. His resolve is unwavering, his passion for justice unrelenting. It was disturbing to learn that the voice note in question did not even belong to him.

“As I left the cell, I felt outrage and shame. How could we, as a nation, allow such abuses to occur? How could we silence a voice that speaks truth to power? I also wondered why the mainstream media remained silent about the arrest of these two Malawians.

“Yet, I felt hope. Kamlepo’s determination showed me the resilience of the human spirit. Together, we will fight for a better Malawi, where freedom and justice reign supreme. We will also push for the truth behind the plane crash that claimed the life of our Vice President, Dr. Saulos Chilima, and eight other officials.”
