Chief Executive Officer for National Food Reserve Agency says, about 5 Million US Dollars (k8.8 Billion) is needed to repair the tilted silos at National Food Reserve Agency’s depot in Lilongwe.

This has come after 12 silos out of 48 have developed problems and are not in use at the moment.

According to Chief Executive Officer for NFRA George Macheka, the development has left the agency with 36 silos out of 48 and the government  could be forced to release 8.8 billion to repair those 12 silos if the agency will not able to find the partners to help

“Our engineers said it is the nature of foundation which caused the silos to be tilted and we organized some of our members to go to South Africa to learn from some companies which faced similar challenges and how they addressed them” Macheka said

However, with the shortfall of silos, the country will not have adequate silos to store the maize, therefore the agency want to call cooperating partners to help raise k8.8 billion to put back the tilted 12 silos.
