Principal Resident Magistrate Roderick Michongwe Grants Bail to Bon Kalindo, arrested on June 20, 2024, for allegedly creating a voice note aimed at disturbing peace, has been granted bail by Principal Resident Magistrate Roderick Michongwe.

Kalindo pleaded not guilty to charges of producing fake news and offensive communication, accused of potentially disturbing the peace.

The voice note allegedly highlighted a strained relationship between President Lazarus Chakwera and the late Saulos Chilima, Malawi’s former vice president who died in Plane crash weeks ago, prompting concerns about peace disturbance, according to state allegations.

As part of the bail conditions, Kalindo must act as his own surety, refrain from activities that may disrupt peace, and appear in court as required.

Rumphi East Parliamentarian Kamlepo Kalua, who was arrested last week on the same charges as Kalindo, was released on bail yesterday.
