The leadership of Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Livingstonia Synod has said it is shocked with the arrest of their minister, Reverend Kondwani Chimbilima Gondwe.
Gondwe is suspected of committing cyber related crimes.
He was arrested in Mzuzu on Monday and the police travelled with him overnight to Lilongwe where he appeared before court for bail application today.
In an interview, the synod’s general secretary, Reverend William Tembo said the synod, led by the synod moderator, Rev. Reuben Msowoya, Moderator -Elect Rev. Jailosi Kamisa and deputy general secretary reverend Isiah Mhone have camped at area 47 in Lilongwe holding prayers with other ministers for the Gondwe’s release and his safety.
Tembo said the synod moderator has directed that they will only stop praying and go back to the synod’s headquarters in Mzuzu when Gondwe is granted bail.
Meanwhile, Blantyre synod deputy general secretary Rev. Baxton Maulidi said there would have been a mutual way of cautioning the minister rather than rushing in arresting him.
