Councillor Esther Sagawa for Chimutu Ward has been elected mayor for Lilongwe City Council during elections held this morning at Civic Office.
Sagawa takes over from former Mayor, Councillor Richard Banda of Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
She will be deputized by Ruth Chingwalu, councillor for Mtandile ward.
Meanwhile, outgoing mayor for Lilongwe City Council Richard Banda has congratulated Sagawa who served as his deputy.
