Police are yet to react to the concerns raised by Deputy General Secretary for the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Blantyre Synod, Reverend Baxton Maulidi.
Reverend Maulidi criticized the Malawi Police Service for being reactive and arresting Reverend Kondwani Kambirima Gondwe of the Livingstonia Synod.
Gondwe was arrested for allegedly publishing false news likely to cause public alarm and for offensive communication.
Maulidi emphasized that, as President Dr Lazarus Chakwera stated, people should be free to express their grief without fear of arrest.
He urged the police to prioritize contact and dialogue over detaining individuals who are grieving.
