A police officer was shot and wounded during ATM bombing in Tarton, West Rand.

The incident underscores a troubling surge in ATM bombings, which have dramatically increased in recent months.

Authorities have reported a sharp rise in such attacks, with new incidents occurring almost weekly.

The cop has sustained a gun shot injury when he responded to a panic button and was ambushed by the ATM bombers. He was shot on the arm and was able to withdraw from the scene and called for backup and medical assistance.

Police have managed to arrest four suspects related to the crime.

The four are aged between 25 and 32, were arrested in Ekurhuleni District on 25/06, for their involvement in ATM bombing, Illegal Mining, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammo. The suspects are believed to be linked to multiple cases of ATM bombing and illegal mining in Ekurhuleni District and other areas in Gauteng province.
