Malawi and Germany have signed a financing agreement for additional funding of EUR 19 million (approximately K35 billion) to support the Malawi Social Cash Transfer Programme.
According to Minister of Finance Simplex Chithyola Banda the additional funding will significantly bolster efforts to provide essential relief to the most vulnerable families in the country.
“The Social Cash Transfer Programme is a lifeline for many, and this support will ensure its sustainability and effectiveness,” Chithyola says.
Meanwhile, Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Jean Sendeza says the funding will empower vulnerable families, women and girls; providing them with the support they need to thrive.
He Ministry is responsible for management of the programme.
The German Ambassador to Malawi, Ute König says the funding is a testament to Germany’s enduring partnership with Malawi and the two nations’ shared goal of fostering social equity and development.
