Former United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atulepe Muluzi has joined Malawians in mourning legendary musician Lucius Banda who died yesterday in South Africa.

Banda, an advisor to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera on Youths and Arts and Campaign Director for United Transformtion Movement (UTM) died at the age of 53.

Writing on his official facebook page, Atupele said Lucius was more than a musician.

“Today, we mourn the loss of an iconic Malawian music legend, Lucias Banda, who has gone to be with the Lord. Lucias was more than just a musician; he was a voice for the people, a beacon of hope, and a symbol of resilience. His music transcended generations, touching hearts and souls across Malawi and beyond.

“He sang of our struggles, our joys, and our aspirations, always with a message of unity and perseverance. His legacy will continue to inspire us, reminding us of the power of music to bring about change,” wrote Banda.

He added: “Rest in peace, Lucias Banda. Your spirit and music will live on in our hearts forever. Thank you for the melodies, the memories, and the message. You will be deeply missed.”

The body of Banda is expected to arrive in the country on Wednesday.
