Leadership with Compassion Party (LCP) President Dr. Sally Kumwenda has joined Malawians across the country in mourning legendary musician Lucius Banda who died yesterday in South Africa.
Speaking in an interview with faceofmalawi reporter Dr. Kumwenda said the country has lost a man who had the welfare of Malawians at heart.
She said though Banda is gone but his legacy will still remain.
“I thank God for the gift of wise men like Lucius Banda. Though he has departed his legacy will remain with us. My condolences should go to the family, friends and relatives and may the soul of our icon Lucius Banda rest in peace,” she said.
Dr. Kumwenda went on to share some of the songs that she dearly loved from the departed icon.
“Oh yes I loved so many songs by Lucius Banda AKA Soldier of the poor as he used to deem himself. I used to love especially his songs from his very first albums. Mostly because most of them were lesson based and could soothe the lives of many.
“Tonthola is my first song as it soothes my soul on the death of my beloved mother. It reminds me that death is inevitable. That one day we shall all depart from here one by one, in various ways and for various reasons,” wrote Dr. Kumwenda.
She added: “Tasiyana pati is also another song that really touches my heart. For me it goes beyond the tit for tat scenario on prisoners who committed murder. Yes Lucius was very right If we murder those who murder others then what’s the difference between us and the murderer? How different are we? Tasiyana pati ndi chigawenga chopha munthu chija. No one has been given that authority by God to murder the other no matter the gravity of the wrong committed. In fact the rules of God are very clear “Do not murder” (Exodus 20:13, Deuteronomy 5:17).”
Dr. Kumwenda said ‘Tasiyana Pati’ hit song reminds her of the bad behaviors that politicians do when in power.
“Title of this song Tasiyana pati further reminds me of our bad behaviors as politicians. When we are not in power we complaint of how the regime in power is treating us but shockingly when we are also given the chance to govern, we imitate the very same bad behaviors, consequently also causing others to complain about the same nde abale tasiyana pati?.
“Am urging politicians that as we are listening to Lucius songs especially now that he is no longer with us, let us reflect on our behaviors and stop imitating the wrong behaviors that were conducted by previous regimes causing others to suffer unjustifiably. Let’s apply the golden rule Do unto others as you would love them to do unto you (Luke 6:31 and Matthew 7:12) in so doing we would be able to create a comfortable Malawi for everyone,” she added.
The body of Lucius Banda is expected to arrive in the country on Wednesday.
Banda died at the age of 53.
