Three Zambian nationals and a Tanzanian were apprehended in Kapiri-Mposhi District for their involvement in conveying and aiding prohibited immigrants.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Danny Mwale said the arrests followed a tip-off from vigilant members of the public.
The trio was travelling aboard a Scania Tanker owned by World Oil Limited Company, driven by 32-year-old Ramadan Ayoub from Tanzania.
Police officers intercepted the tanker at Nkumbi Checkpoint and discovered four males believed to be Ethiopians hidden inside the truck’s cargo area.
During interviews, the driver disclosed that someone in Kapiri-Mposhi was awaiting the arrival of the four immigrants.
Acting on this information, officers located Moses Mfula, a 42-year-old individual, who was subsequently arrested.
Mfula cooperated with the police and led them to two other suspects.
Charles Mwanza (43) and Taonga Mukwakwa (32), both from Lusaka’s Chawama compound and Matero township, were apprehended after being spotted near the tanker truck in a Toyota Landcruiser.
The incident occurred on June 30, 2024, between 18:00 and 23:30 hours in Kapiri-Mposhi and Mkushi districts.
All suspects are currently in police custody in Kapiri-Mposhi, while the four illegal immigrants remain detained in Mkushi.
