Police in Nkhotakota have launched investigations to locate a mother to a baby who has been found dumped in a toilet at Chakaka village in the district
According to Paul Malimwe Nkhotakota Police’s publicist, the baby was discovered yesterday on 1st July 2024 at around 9 O’clock in the morning by some people who were passing by the toilet who heard uncontrollably crying of a baby inside the toilet.
Malimwe said prior to that, the reporter went inside the toilet and discovered that the baby was inside the latrine which prompted them to alert the police.
Upon receipt of the report, police and medical personnel from Alinafe mission hospital rushed to the scene of crime.
With the support from the members of the community, the newly born baby girl was retrieved alive from the latrine.
Currently, the baby girl has been referred to Nkhotakota District hospital for examination and treatment.
Once the mother is apprehended will answer a charge of child abandonment contrary to section 232(a) of the penal code.
