Police in Namwera, Mangochi district, have arrested three Mozambican nationals for being found with five pieces of elephant tusks at the Delari market.

According to Mangochi police spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi, the individuals are Shoriano Juwao Bizwick, Nelson Bala, and Ziti Rajabu, all from Nyerere village in the Mandimba district of Mozambique.

Daudi said the police were informed by local residents that five Mozambican nationals were selling pieces of elephant tusks at the market.

She said that with the help of the organization responsible for investigating crimes involving protected wildlife, the police rushed to the scene and apprehended three suspects who were found with five pieces of elephant tusks weighing 12 kilograms.

All suspects will appear before court soon.
