Police in Chiradzulu have launched a manhunt of Steven Museu from Liphuthu Village for suspecting him to have murdered his lover, Bertha Nkolimbo on June 17, 2024.
Chiradzulu Police Station Public Relations Officer (PRO), Sergeant Cosmas Kagulo confirmed the development, saying on the said date Bertha (now deceased) left her home for a drinking spree within the same village and never returned home but on the same day before she went missing, she was seen at the suspect’s house.
“The following day, the suspect brought a pair of shoes to the bar and told the bar owner to deliver the same to the deceased when she comes for drinking. However, she never showed up until June 30, 2024.
“In the morning, when villagers went to the grave yard to prepare a final resting place of another fellow villager, they were greeted by a very strong foul smell within the yard that prompted them to search and later discovered a dead body in a decomposed state without clothes,” he added.
Kagulo added that communities reported the matter to police who rushed to the scene together with a medical officer from Chiradzulu District Hospital.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a cloth nearby which was positively identified to belong to deceased, according to the PRO.
Postmortem examination was conducted at Chiradzulu District Hospital and results established that death was due to head injuries secondary to assault.
Meanwhile, investigations have been instituted to trace the culprit and when found, will be charged with murder.
Nkolimbo, 40, came from Namonde Village in Traditional Authority (TA) Nkalo in the district.
