Police in Chiradzulu district are looking for a teacher who is suspected of having sex with a 13-year-old child.
Chiradzulu police spokesperson Cosmas Kagulo said the teacher is Chimwemwe Chitani who teaches at Maravi Primary School in the district.
According Kagulo, Chitani committed the offence on June 26, 2024 at around 4 o’clock in the evening.
Kagulo said that on that day there was a soccer match between Maravi and Gomani teams and the games were held at the Gomani primary school playground and Mr. Chitani and the child watched the game.
Around 4 o’clock the teacher told the child to take him to a grocery store to buy a Frozzy drink, which the child agreed to.
Kagulo said that the teacher on his way back told the child to take shortcuts and raped him.
After fulfilling his wishes, he came to the stadium through a different route.
They said that the next day the child told the Head teacher of the school and when they called him to hear his side he insisted that he did not drink his eggs.
He left the matter at the Montfort sub-police on July 1 when he found out that the teacher had moved out of the house where he lived.
“The girl was sent to St Joseph’s Hospital where it was confirmed that she had been taken,” Mr Kagulo said.
According to them, investigations are underway to arrest the suspect Chitani) who comes from Ndala Mfumu Yaikulu Njema in Chiradzulu district.
