Police at Katuli in Mangochi district have arrested Chataika Makawa, 45, for allegedly stabbing to death his 42-year-old wife, Esimy Daudi, over accusations of infidelity.
Mangochi police station spokesperson, Inspection Amina Tepani Daudi, told us this morning that the tragedy occurred on the evening of July 5, 2024, at Kwitunji village, under Traditional Authority Katuli in the district.
She said it was alleged that the couple had been at odds due to the husband’s suspicions of his wife having extramarital affairs, and yesterday the two engaged in a quarrel and the wife ran away in an attempt to seek refuge at a neighbour’s house, unaware that she was being followed.
“Before she could knock on the door, the husband grabbed her, produced a knife, and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing, but our officers later managed to apprehend him with the help of community members,” explained Inspector Daudi.
