A firearm has been recovered from an 18-year-old pupil of a named school in Lusaka by a team of regular and reserve Police Officers, working with members of the Community Crime Prevention Unit.
The weapon has been identified as a black Zastava Serbia Pistol, 9-millimetre calibre, with serial number 1-9-5-7-6.
Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, notes that the recovery operation took place around 00:30 hours on 7th July, 2024, with the suspect, a resident of Garden Park area.
Hamoonga explains that while Police Officers were conducting patrols in the area, they received a tip-off from members of the public indicating that the suspect was illegally in possession of a pistol.
He says acting on the information, the patrol team apprehended the suspect and recovered the firearm, with its source yet to be established.
Hamoonga states that a docket for unlawful possession of a firearm has been opened and further updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
He has thanked the public for their vigilance and cooperation in the matter, further encouraging continued support in maintaining safety and security in communities.
