Police in Neno have found the lifeless body of a 17-year-old girl at Nkula Hydro Power Station after she was reportedly swept away by the Shire River.

According to Neno Police spokesperson Rebecca Msoliza, the girl, Julita Davie, and her friend went to the river to do laundry. While they were washing clothes, Julita was swept away by the current.

“Julita went to the river with friends to wash clothes but was tragically swept away by the powerful current,” Msoliza said.

A search operation was initiated, which led to her body being discovered at Nkula.

The deceased was a Form 2 student at Ngoms Private Secondary School in Zalewa.

Julita Davie came from Zalewa Village, Traditional Authority Symon in Neno District.
