President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed four new High Court Judges, including youthful appointee Dr. Steven Kayuni, effective immediately.
The appointments increase the total number of Judges to 47, still below the established total of 78 mandated by the current Judiciary framework approved by the government in 2020.
Prior to his judicial appointment, Kayuni served as Principal Secretary in Homeland Security and previously held the position of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Other appointees include Madalitso Khoswe Chimwaza, formerly Chief Residence Magistrate for Lilongwe; Edna Bodole, previously Deputy Chairperson of the Industrial Relations Court; and Kondwani Banda, who served as Registrar for the Supreme and High Courts of Malawi.
