A 13-year-old boy from Dambwa Site and Service in Livingstone has been rescued from the Mukanda Circumcision Camp.
The boy’s father filed a complaint at Livingstone Central Police Station on July 8, 2024, alleging that his son had been unlawfully admitted to the Luvale-convened traditional rite three days prior.
Deputy Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Moono Namalongo, said that officers engaged with the Mukanda Organizers and proceeded to the camp, which was located in a bushy area near Nakatindi Cemetery.
The camp’s convener, identified as Likwita, accompanied them.
After walking a few meters from the campsite, Likwita returned with the boy and handed him over to his father, along with other unidentified fellow Mukanda Organizers.
Namalongo emphasized that the organizers were previously informed about the necessity of obtaining consent for children under the age of 16 before admitting them to such rites.
