The Federal Bureau of Investigation has revealed that Donald Trump’s would-be assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks, had explosives in his car when he drove to the Pennsylvania rally and used a firearm purchased by his father.
Authorities discovered the explosive devices in the 20-year-old’s vehicle and home after Secret Service agents shot and killed him just seconds after he opened fire on the former president, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Thomas Crooks’s father, Matthew Crooks, 53, legally purchased the AR-15 that his son used in the assassination attempt.
During the attack, Thomas Crooks killed one rallygoer, Corey Comperatore, and critically injured two others who are now being treated at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
A bullet struck Donald Trump in the right ear, but his campaign has stated that he is “fine.”
On Saturday, Thomas Crooks parked his vehicle near the rally site in Butler, Pennsylvania, and climbed onto the roof of a nearby building to carry out his attack.
Following reports of suspicious packages near the parking area, police dispatched bomb technicians who later found more explosives in Crooks’ family home in Bethel Park.
Thomas Crooks, a registered Republican and 2022 high school graduate, shot at Trump from a rooftop 130 yards from the rally stage before being killed by Secret Service agents.
