Before the week concludes, a Malawian delegation is expected to head to Zambia to delve into an alleged attempt to externalize 42 million Malawi Kwacha, involving two foreign nationals—a US citizen and a Russian national—who were recently arrested by Zambia’s Drug Enforcement Commission.

Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) spokesperson Dr. Mark Lungu has confirmed that the delegation’s visit aims to investigate the details behind the attempt to transfer a large sum of money from Malawi.

Dr. Lungu revealed that the delegation will be working in close cooperation with the Zambian central bank as part of their efforts to get to the bottom of the case.

As the investigation unfolds, the Centre for Social Accountability and Transparency (CSAT) has voiced its discontent with Malawi’s security measures.

CSAT’s Executive Director, Willy Kambwandira, criticized the country’s security system, calling the incident a clear sign of weaknesses in the national security and financial oversight mechanisms.
