The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) has expressed concern with what it calls the security threat posed to the country by illegal immigrants.

MDF Commander General Paul Valentino Phiri expressed the worry earlier today in Lilongwe when the soldiers paraded 220 immigrants they arrested that are living the country illegally.

The immigrants are from Burundi, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia and were arrested at Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

General Phiri said with the insecurity in Cabo Delgado province in northern Mozambique, the MDF was worried that some of the immigrants could be recruits there and that they could be using Malawi as transit.

He has since called for collaboration with other security agents to tackle the problem if human trafficking.
