Police in Lilongwe have arrested six (6) people on suspicion of causing chaos at the Immigration office in Lilongwe.
The Deputy Spokesperson of the Central West Police, Foster Benjamin has confirmed the arrest and said the suspects committed the offense yesterday on 18 July 2024.
According to Benjamin, these people have been arrested on charges of inciting a riot, damaging property and blocking roads.
Benjamin, these people are between the ages of 24 and 57, and when the Immigration workers want to leave, they force the workers not to leave by saying that they still have to make passports.
“Immigration officials did not accept this and then they started shouting and blocking the road until they broke the windows of the office and two cars owned by Immigration officials,” said Benjamin.
Benjamin said the police rushed to Immigration and dispersed the rioters and arrested 6 people who are expected to appear in court to answer charges leveled against them.
