Four people have died whilst several others have sustained various injuries in a road accident at Lwanjati along champhira-Luwerezi gravel road in the district.
The accident involved a motor vehicle, a Hino Ranger with registration number BAX3020, driven by Robert Phiri. The vehicle was transporting 74 Catholic Church members from Mwase in Zambia to Chizani for a church ceremony.
According to Macfarlen Mseteka, the Public Relations Officer for Jenda Police, the driver failed to navigate a corner as he was driving down a hill at Langwati, losing control of the vehicle.
“Three people died on the spot, and the other died while receiving treatment at Jenda Rural Hospital,” said Mseteka.
Others, according to Mseteka, have been referred to Mzimba District Hospital due while 34 were treated as outpatients at Jenda Rural Hospital.
