A police officer identified as Sergeant Kiston Chisale, is in custody in Mangochi for allegedly abducting a minor.
Sergeant Chisale, based at the Lulanga police unit, is accused of spending a night with a 15-year-old girl at his house last week without her parents’ knowledge.
The suspect is alleged to have engaged in sexual activity with the girl name withheld.
National police spokesperson Peter Kalaya has confirmed of the arrest in an interview with the press, saying that Chisale has been charged with an abduction offence.
The suspect will appear in court soon.
