Police in Kasungu district have arrested a 40-year-old mother and mother to a 4 year-old prophetess on suspicion of killing four (4) children after beating them to exorcize evil spirits from them.
Kasungu police spokesperson Joseph Kachikho has identified the mother as Ireen Banda and the minor prophetess (name withheld) who hails from Chisazima Village in the district.
It is reported that parents went to pray for the children and the four-year-old prophetess told the mother to beat them to heal.
However it has been noted that the deceased children identified as Richard Nkhata, Samson Nkhata, Kelvin Banda and Funny Banda had an anemia disease.
But instead of curing the disorder, the mother and the so called prophets who claimed to be told by her gods started to whip the four to cast demons out by beating them severe which caused them to die.
According to kachikho, police have detained Ireen and the mother of the child who claims to be the prophetess.
