A Train carrying 16 tank wagons loaded with diesel is expected to arrive at Kanengo National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) Fuel Depot at 2pm.
The last time this happened was in 2003.
Minister of Transport at Public Works Jacob Hara confirmed of the development in a statement posted on his official facebook page yesterday.
According to Hara, this follows the reopening of the Nkaya to Lilongwe route after Central East Africa Railways successfully rehabilitated the railway.
“Subsequent fuel train will continue to bring fuel to Lilongwe from Nacala Port,” Hara wrote.
Meanwhile CEAR is continuing rehabilitation of the railway between Lilongwe and Mchinji in order to open connectivity by railway to Nacala port for Zambia.
