Misheck Pinto, a 30-year-old scrap metal dealer from Mgona village in Nsanje under Traditional Authority Tengani, has been arrested for allegedly possessing stolen China Railway 20 railway line materials.
The arrest followed a report that the materials had been stolen from Marka trading centre yesterday morning.
Deputy police publicist Constable Declare Mbukwa stated, “We got a tip-off that the suspect has been buying scraps from various criminals who have been vandalising the China Railway line.”
During the follow-up investigation, the police seized 44 flat railway crampers and 74 angle railways.
Pinto is expected to face charges related to possessing stolen property.
