Leadership with Compassion Party (LCP) President Dr. Sally Kumwenda has protested the outcome of the by-elections in Chilaweni Ward where an independent candidate Maxwell Chipiliro Phiri has been declared winner.
Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) conducted by-elections in Mwansa Ward in Mangochi and Chilaweni Ward in Blantyre on Tuesday.
MEC Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja declared Phiri as winner with 1882 votes while in Mwansa Ward MEC declared Malawi Congress Party (MCP) candidate Stewart Mwase winner after amassing 1073 votes.
But LCP President Dr. Sally Kumwenda said the results are not true reflection of the wishers of the people in Chilaweni Ward.
Dr. Kumwenda said the party’s candidature Lucius Kasonya deserved to win the polls in the area.
“The party that everyone knew that it was scooping 90 + votes has ended up being given zero votes in o,” she said.
Kasonya has amassed 56 votes, according to official results from MEC.
