Public Relations Officer for Nkhotakota police Sergeant Paul Malimwe has confirmed the development saying her intention was to make it look like the child had drown.

Malimwe said the woman did the act in agreement with her husband who was the step father to the child as he was not comfortable living with him.

”On the material day, at around 09:00 hours, the mother took the suspected poison drink and gave it to her son. When he became weak, she took him to a nearby river and threw him into the water to fake it as a drowning case”. Said Malimwe.

He said postmortem results established that death was due to poison hence the step to call the suspect for questioning who later admitted to have poisoned her son in order to secure marriage.

She will appear in court soon to answer murder charges.

Both the deceased and Banda hail from Kukhonde village in the area of traditional authority Mwansambo in Nkhotakota.
