The Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe has announced that it will deliver its ruling on Chiyanjano Mbeza’s bail application next Tuesday.
Mbeza, an audio engineer, was arrested last week in Blantyre on for being behind Bakili Muluzi Tv.
Mbeza’s charges related to spreading false information about Vice President Saulos Chilima and disseminating disruptive messages via the internet.
This development follows a request from the prosecution to keep the accused in custody until their investigation, which is nearing completion, is finalized.
However, one of Mbeza’s lawyers, Roshedra Demel, expressed confidence that he will be granted bail next week, citing the fundamental right of any accused person to be released on bail in such cases.
Mbeza is expected to return to court for a second hearing next week on Tuesday at 2:00 PM.
