The Zomba Magistrate Court has convicted the headteacher of Likwenu Secondary School, Dennis Matipwiri, on a charge of abuse of office.

Matipwiri was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for misappropriating funds meant for the purchase of a printer machine for the school.

The ACB Principal Public Relations Officer, Egrita Ndala, has confirmed of the development in a statement made available to this publication.

Ndala said the bureau acted on a complaint alleging the misappropriation of the undisclosed funds, which led to the arrest of Matipwiri.

She said ACB established that Matipwiri abused his position, contrary to Section 25B(1) of the Corrupt Practices Act (CPA).

He has since been remanded to Zomba Prison, awaiting sentencing.
