Nthawira Primary School Football team has beaten Namilango Primary School Football team 1-0 to win the Alex Chimwala MK1 million Netball and Football Trophy.

The match was played at jam-parked Nkolokoti Primary School Ground in Blantyre on Friday, July 26, 2024.

Well-known businessman and a concerned citizen from Machinjiri Alex Chimwala who sponsored the tournament graced the finals together with son to former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi, Francis Muluzi, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Blantyre Kabula.

For emerging as champions, Nthawira went away with MK200,000 prize money and a trophy and Namilango went away with MK150, 000.00 for emerging as runners up.

On the other hand, Nkolokoti Primary School Netball team emerged victorious after beating South Lunzu Netball team with 26 baskets to 16.

Speaking after the tournament Chimwala expressed his gratitude with how the tournament progressed without any acts of hooliganism.

“Am very happy that all the teams that participated in the league demonstrated sportsmanship throughout the tournament,” said Chimwala.

He then promised to come up with the tournament involving Secondary Schools around Machinjiri Township.

“This is my home and I will do whatever within my powers to give back the little I earn from my business to the community,” he added.

On his part, Chrispin Matemba, Malawi Schools Sports Association (MASSA) Chairperson for South Lunzu Zone said he was satisfied with the tournament.

Matemba then hailed Chimwala for the sponsorship.
