Some supporters of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) are calling for the resignation of the State Vice President Dr. Michael Usi from the party.
Usi ascended to UTM Presidency following the death of its then leader Dr. Saulos Chilima in a plane crash together with 8 others in Mzuzu on June 10, 2024.
During a rally at Katoto Ground in Mzuzu, some UTM supporters carried placards telling Usi to leave UTM.
“Usi leave UTM alone,” reads part of the message on the placards.
But when addressing the crowd gathered UTM Secretary General Patricia Kaliati said Usi is the party President.
“Our president remains Dr Michael Usi . But if he wants to remain in government, we shall meet at the convention,” she said.
Kaliati explained that Usi is at liberty to do his national duties but took a swipe at the Veep.
