Principal Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has granted bail to Chiyanjano Mbedza, who is suspected to have committed cyber-related crimes.

Principal Resident Magistrate Rodrick Michongwe on Tuesday granted Mbedza bail with a bond of one reliable surety for K300,000 and a non-cash bond of K500,000.

The accused is required to appear before the court every fortnight and whenever needed.

Mbedza was arraigned on a one-count charge bordering on false publication likely to cause fear and alarm to the public, which is against Section 60 of the penal code.

Michongwe has ruled that the suspect should be tried in the Southern Region and last week, he had reserved both applications of bail and transfer of the case to back to Blantyre.

Mbeza is suspected to be the main man behind Bakili Muluzi Tv, fierce critic of the Tonse Alliance government of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.
