Police in Nkhotakota have launched manhunt to apprehend unknown people who assaulted to death a 21 year-old man for allegedly suspected of stealing beans from a garden in Chapota village in the district.
Deputy spokesperson for Nkhotakota police, Sergeant Chisomo Chuma, has confirmed the development and said this happened on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon in the village.
According to Chuma, the late Ibrahim went to a garden in the village with the intention of stealing beans, when he was there, the owner of the garden saw him and shouted for people to help him catch the thief and many people flocked to the place.
The people were said to have managed to catch the suspect and began to beat him severely before setting him on fire.
When Police were informed about the matter, they followed the matter and they went together with medical personnel at Benga hospital to examine the body.
Postmortem results the results showed that Ibrahim died due to fire injuries.
Meanwhile, the police in the district have criticized the actions of these people and have asked people to report to the police if they suspect that someone has done something wrong.
William Ibrahim hailed from Chingwe village Traditional Authority Mwadzama in the same district of Nkhotakota.
