Six people have been arrested in Blantyre for being found in possession of ivory and rhino horns.

South West Police Headquarters deputy public relations officer Beatrice Mikuwa identified the six as Steven Kandoje (37), Chrissy Dailes (45), Hellen Maunjeni (55), Eliza Mpira (45),Lonex Lopanda (35) and Omar Nadim (55).

According to Mikuwa, Lopanda and Mpira were nabbed in Mpemba township where they went to sell the horns, which they stole from their boss, Nadim.

Police intercepted them in the process.

She said: “What actually happened is that there were two people, Mpira and Lopanda who were working at Nadim’s house.Whilst working, they found some horns in the house and they connived to steal them.

“After being arrested and upon being questioned, they led the police to Nadim’s house where we found the ivory. So far, all six suspects have been taken to court for a plea.”
