An online protest has been organized by the Zatikwana Campaign, demanding the removal of Minister of Homeland Security Ken Zikhale Ng’oma for alleged incompetence.
Tawene Simbeye, the National Youth Chair of the campaign, accused Ng’oma of being behind the Department of Immigration’s failure to provide passports promptly and efficiently.
The campaign is calling for the urgent appointment of a new Director General for the Immigration Department to tackle what they term a passport crisis.
Minister of Information and Government Spokesperson Moses Kumkuyu has stated that the appointment of cabinet ministers is the President’s prerogative.
Kumkuyu added that the issues raised in the petition are being addressed, and that Malawians are still able to obtain passports.
