A 20-year-old man has died after a gold mine collapsed on him, on the banks of the Liwala River in Kasungu.

Uncle to the deceased man Godfrey Sikayena has confirmed the death and said the accident happened on Tuesday at Chipumba village where the man and two other friends went to dig for gold.

Kasungu police spokesman Inspector Joseph Kachikho has identified the deceased as Pearson Raphael.

Police said that after the medical examination of the body of the deceased, they found that he died due to suffocation.

Pearson Raphael hailed from Chipumba village Traditional Authority Wimbe in Kasungu.
