Mangochi Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court convicted and sentenced a Mozambican National identified as Bonfasio Castro to 12 years imprisonment with hard labor after being found guilty of armed robbery.
Deputy spokesperson for Mangochi Police Station Madalitso Sadik Phiri says the convict allegedly used an AK 47 rifle to shoot three people at Namalaka Village Traditional Authority Nanavi in Mangochi.
Phiri says one of the wounded victims died while receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
During court proceedings, Castro pleaded not guilty to the charge, prompting the state to parade three witnesses who proved the case in favor of State prosecutor Shadrick Wisiki.
In his ruling, Senior Resident Magistrate Muhammad Chande sentenced Castro to a 12-year jail term with hard labor.
