Jamaican dancehall star Vybz Kartel has been released from prison after serving 13 years.
The Court of Appeal in Jamaica overturned his life sentence, which he had been serving for the 2011 murder of his music producer, Clive “Lizard” Williams. Kartel, along with co-defendants Shawn “Shawn Storm” Campbell, Andre St John, and Kahira Jones, had their convictions upheld in a 2020 appeal but were recently acquitted.
Kartel, also known as Adidja Palmer, gained international fame with his hit song “Summer Time,” which has over 100 million views on YouTube.
Following the court’s decision, footage of Kartel in a white outfit and red bandana surfaced online, showing large crowds in Jamaica celebrating his release.
