Nkhata Bay District Council Elects New Leaders: Joseph Thula as Chairperson and Brown Chizeze as Vice-Chair

Joseph Thula, a Councillor from Mpamba Ward, has been elected as the chairperson of the Nkhata Bay District Council following an elective meeting held today.

Thula, who is affiliated with United Transformation Movement (UTM), won the position with 7 votes, surpassing Councillor Malani Kaunda from Chikwina Ward, who received 5 votes.

The vice-chairperson role went to Independent Councillor Brown Chizeze of Usisya Ward, who also garnered 7 votes, defeating Patrick Manda from Chitheka Ward, who received 5 votes.

Thula’s acceptance speech highlighted his commitment to working alongside the council secretariat to improve district services and called for support from his fellow councillors.

Nkhata Bay District Commissioner Rodgers Newa emphasized the importance of the new leaders providing effective oversight to enhance the performance of the council secretariat.
