State vice President Dr. Michael Usi this morning paid a surprise visit to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services headquarters in Blantyre following challenges that Malawians are facing to access passports in the country.
Usi met Immigration top officials including Ministry of Homeland Security principal secretary Steven Kayuni and Immigration Department commissioner (operations) Fletcher Nyirenda Nyirenda, who is the acting head of the department.
For close to two years now, Malawians have been struggling to access passports at the department due to numerous challenges.
It all started with the hacking of the Immigration system and President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera told Parliament that the hackers were demanding billions of kwacha.
Meanwhile, the system is now back.
