Minister of Information and Digitalization Moses Kunkuyu has quashed claims by some United Transformation Movement (UTM) supporters that government is deliberately delaying release of the report on the death of former Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima.

Chilima together with eight others died in a plane crash on June 10, 2024 in Chikangawa Forest and the accident attracted mixed reactions among Malawians.

This forced President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to institute an inquiry on the matter where a Germany team together with the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) are currently conducting.

But Yesterday some UTM officials accused government of deliberately delaying the release of the report.

Reacting to the claims, Kunkuyu quashed the claims, saying government has no hand in the delay.

“is not true that government is delaying the release of the report but the team that is investigating the plane crash has its own rules to follow when releasing the report. Us as government we could also have loved to have the report released as soon as yesterday,” said Kunkuyu.

Last week Chakwera claimed that some Malawians are pushing him to comment on something that is not aware of.
