The Second Grade Magistrate’s court in Mzimba district has convicted and sentenced Kennedy Mvula 19, to pay a fine of K25000 in default 12 months imprisonment for intimidating to stab Petro Soko at Luwerezi in the district.

The incident occurred when officers for Luwerezi Police and community policing members wanted to arrest the accused for a different case of unlawful wounding he had committed.

Appearing before court on August 5, 2024,, Mvula pleaded guilty to the offence but asked the court for leniency in mitigation, stating that he is young and looks after his grandparent.

However, the state prosecutor, Sub Inspector Pachalo Nyirenda asked for a stiffer punishment because Mvula chose to threaten the authority despite recognising them.

In passing the sentence, Magistrate Wongani Nyirenda slapped Mvula with a lean punishment to pay a fine of K25,000 in default 12 months imprisonment for the offence of Intimidation which is contrary to section 88 of the penal code.

considering the accused being first offender and that he had no weapon when he was committing the crime.

Kennedy Mvula hails from Kadalikanga village, Traditional Authority Mabulabo in Mzimba district.
