As investigations are underway to establish the cause of the house fire accident that happened at area 5 in Machinjiri where a man identified as Alexander Mbekeani lost his life in the process, neighbors have ruled out foul play as alleged by some Malawians.

One of the neighbors who spoke to faceofmalawi reporter on the condition of anonymity said that Mbekeani and his wife Hope Chimwala had an argument over marital issues which resulted into a fierce fight.

According to the source, in the course of the fight the wife collapsed and was rushed to a nearby Private Hospital for treatment.

“Tili Kuchipatala komweko tinalandila uthenga oti nyumba ya bambo Mbekeani ikuyaka moto ndipo anthu a mudzi adathamangila komweko kuti akapulumuse katundu. Alimkati mulimbana kuti athyole mawindo anamvakufuula kwa abambo nyumbamo ndipo anthuwo anachita chothekela kuwapumulusa abambowo ndikuthamangila nawo kuchipatala cha Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital,” said the source.

When asked on rumours making rounds on social media that Mbekeani’s wife deliberately petrol-bombed the house, the source said the claims are untrue since the incident happened while the wife was in hospital.

“Ifeyo tikuona ngati bambo Mbekeani adachita kuziyasa okha mnyumbamo mix adali atalezela kwambiri komanso adali ndi mantha chifukwa amona ngati akazi awo amwalila pandeuyo,” she added.

One of the deceased relations refused to comment on the matter, saying they will only comment on the matter once the police report is out.

When contacted for comment Ndirande Police Public Relations Officer Maxwell Jailos said the law enforcers are investigating the matter and will soon release the report.

“As police we are investigating the matter for us to get the real cause of the fire outbreak,” said Jailos.

The body of Alexander Mbekeani will be laid to rest in Mchiru near Blantyre International University (BIU).
