Former President Peter Mutharika who is also leader of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has said that the Malawians are at a pivotal moment in their history, where the choices they make today will shape the future of Malawi for generations to come.

Mutharika said this as the party is heading for the elective conference slated for August 17-18 at Comesa Hall in the commercial capital, Blantyre.

“As the President of the mighty Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), I stand before you with a deep sense of responsibility and unwavering commitment to our beloved nation. We are at a pivotal moment in our history, where the choices we make today will shape the future of Malawi for generations to come,” wrote Mutharika.

Mutharika has since accused President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and his Tonse Alliance of failing Malawians.

“Our nation faces profound challenges—our economy has stumbled, and our unity has been strained. The Tonse Alliance has failed to deliver on its promises, and it is clear that their approach is not working. Now, more than ever, we need proven leadership to restore hope, rebuild our economy, and heal the divisions that have fractured our society,” said Mutharika.

The opposition DPP will hold the elective conference under the theme: “A Return to Proven Leadership: A Call to All Malawians in Restoring Hope, Rebuilding the Economy, and Healing the Fractured Unity of Our Nation.”
