Two people have died while two others have sustained various degrees of injuries following a road accident that happened at Nsipe along the M1 road in Ntcheu district on Wednesday.

The deceased are Thomas Nyirongo aged 40, and 42-year-old, Gift German.

Ntcheu Police Station Public Relations Officer, Inspector Jacob Khembo said Andrew Mondeya was driving a Nissan Duke saloon registration number BW 4765 with four passengers on board and upon reaching the junction at Nsipe ADMARC, he was overtaking a Lifan motorcycle with registration number RU 1904.

“Due to speeding, he lost control, swerved to the extreme offside, hit and demolished a brick fence, and stopped.

“Following the impact, two people sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures while two others sustained minor injuries,” said Khembo.

He said two people who sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures were pronounced dead upon arrival at Ntcheu District Hospital.

Meanwhile, police in the district is appealing to road users especially drivers to avoid over-speeding to prevent such accidents.

Thomas Nyirongo hailed from Mphande Village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Mwalweni in Rumphi district while Gift German hailed from Kagulitse Village, TA Kamenyagwaza in Dedza district.
